This video shows geospatial (mapping) data hosted from many different sources being viewed on-demand with the user managing data layers, data transparency using their preferred, standards-based client. The services shown are from the United States government and its data partners. The first user-interface featured is based on Microsoft's Virtual Earth, one of several viewers offered within NGA's GEOINT-Online website. The data services shown are discoverable and accessible via a "Community of Interest" (COI) focused on the Haiti Earthquake. Because these are standards-based geo-services (primarily OGC standards such as KML, WMS, WFS, and GeoRSS), other clients are also able to consume these services (Google Earth and ArcGIS for example). The ability to consume data on-demand from many authoritative data sources obviates the need to find and download large geospatial data files. The ability to geo-tag products using a standards metadata schema also allows for near-real-time discovery and alerts.
