@DeathG4n My main point is that religion is unnecessary. Yeah it has stuff about morals but people can be just as moral without religion. Most atheists including myself have a good set of morals, that stem from compassion for other people rather than from strange beliefs. My secondary point is that religion is not true. It just isn't. The phenomenon of religion and its effects on society can be explained fully through socio-psychology. Rationally, it should be left in the past.

@RuggyBurnstead Coming from that point of view, blaming religion for most of these problems is like blaming a baseballbat for hitting someone in the face. It makes no sense. Religion can gather people and if there is a method to gather people it will be used for power by people who want to manipulate. Religion is just one of these things, anything that can gather people in general will be used to gain power by people who know what they are doing.
-
@RuggyBurnstead And that's where the term institution jumps in. What you are saying is that the religious institutions (which are the cause of the passive aggressive intolerance in certain religious groups) are bad and with that I wholeheartedly agree (ex. institution of the church). But that is not the same as religion. (religious) Spirituality is something of utmost individuality and has nothing to do with the institution which abuses religion to garner power.
-
@DeathG4n Also, yes I agree that religion teaches morals, but the majority of atheists are also very moral and ethical people. Religion is not needed, as most atheists believe in freedom, equality etc. without believing in unlikely ideas and without the passive-aggressive intolerance that religion promotes. Religion is regarded as a form of mass control from long ago, and is now irrelevant. And many psychologists agree, i.e. Martin's disconfirmation of belief theory.

@DeathG4n It is not surprising that 40% of American scientists are religious because America is an extremely Christian country. However, worldwide, scientists are by far predominantly atheist. Dawkins, like many scientists, only points out the fact that the basis of many religions are very unlikely. No one can say for sure where the universe comes from, but it is possible to logically discard certain hypotheses. Science has answered a lot about the universe whilst religion hasn't.

@milantrickovic78 Actually I consider basic principles like respect as a fundamental part of being raised properly. I be judgemental but hell, to someone who disrespects tons of people that isn't really a problem. Also Science and religion is not compatible? How? The main points of religion are lifestyle and morality, which are both things that evidently have nothing to do with science. A recent poll (Times) showed that 40% of american scientists are religious btw
-
@RuggyBurnstead I'm going to have to respectably disagree with the idea that religion and science are incompatible. Religion is a lifestyle and it is adjustable to any type of society, the main moral values most religions promote (do not kill, do not steal, etc...) are more prominent than the hate spreading. Blaming religion for the way some people interpret religion isn't logical. In a recent times poll 40% of american scientists said to be practicing religion so there'sthat too

I will pay some one $20 to translate what the black guy was saying
