Michael Jackson was coronated in 1984 as the "latest King of rock and roll", because he became the most successful rock star since the 1980s. In 1989 Elizabeth Taylor named as the "true King of pop, rock and soul" (King of popular music, King of rock and roll music and King of soul music).

Some fans in 1993 used unnecessaryly the abbreviated title "king of pop" for "king of pop, rock and soul".

But Michael Jackson is the last king of rock and roll.
