The original film of this sculpture was shot as a super 8 movie in 1979, then incorporated on Brad's multimedia enhanced blues/jazz CD release "I'll Give You The Bus Money, Honey!" The sculpture is mostly wood, measuring approx. 20" x 16" x 22"high.

  • Thank you for the video response. Your machine is much more complicated than mine. Mine just looks complicated.

I have seen your machine before, but I don't remember where. Del.

  • Wonderful to hear from you, Del. i think complexity is overrated. The beauty of your piece transcends that in the aesthetics of the ways you've woven the mechs together. Beautiful job!

  • Wow that was cool. Your guitar work reminds me of Rory Block. Your machines are very cool. I enjoyed watching this very much. Neat song also. Did you right the song?

  • Mr. Diddy Wa Diddy was written by Blind Arthur Blake, circa 1926, or thereabouts. He was among the most amazing players that have ever lived. Thanks for asking!

  • That's some very nice work... and you sing and play guitar too? I give up - I just don't feel creative any more. ;)

How much do you plan out on paper in advance, and how much do you just build "by the seat of the pants"?

  • Back in 1979, I worked from my head, mostly, making only a few loose sketches. These days, I like to model things on the computer. It gives me the luxury of exploring more different ideas, before committing to the work of making parts. Thanks for posting!

  • This makes me think of Amateria, in Myst Exile.... I wonder if they saw it, too?

  • @BLitwin & woodificood

I love this little exchange between two great makers who have posted their machines on youtube. Superb.

  • I love blind blake and your marble machine. Videos like yours and Del's make me want to build one myself. Thank you.

  • diddy wah indeed..... you are a treasure sir!

  • Very interesting and complex. Nicely made and I like the accompaniment. I would have liked to have seen the detail a bit more clearly - on my PC the video was rather dark. Perhaps it is just my settings.

I keep browsing marble machines for ideas to develop and introduce to my own machine which is still in its infancy and I am quite stunned with the quality machines around.

  • I come for the mechanical devices but I stay for the blues. :P You've got the blues voice sound that so many want that few have and your guitar work is great.

  • A factory for gelfling.
