David Copperfield - Floating Over the Grand Canyon

David Copperfield floats over the Grand Canyon in his 6th television special, The Magic of David Copperfield VI: Floating over the Grand Canyon. No television or green screen effects are used in the making of this effect - doing so would have been totally impossible because in 1984 the technology did not exist as it does today.

I thought the chroma key technique was first used in the 1930s. Anyway, it looks like they are driving an model-airplane with a big doll on top of it. We can't see any closeups on the flying object, and the movement looks just like my own RC-plane. And why the loud music, is it to cover over any engine sounds??

I don't know about the music, probably to keep it interesting.

But we do infact see David while he is flying in-close up at 3:50 onwards.

I know how this is done and I will give you two hints:

Firstly, there is no green/blue screen effects of any kind.

And secondly, he really was there; that actually is David over the Grand Canyon.

Its not about intelligence, its illusion.

But remember no computer effects were used. The real trick is learning to enjoy mystery; though I admit, this is NOT one of Copperfield's greatest.

is this an actual illusion, or is it just a music video or something, i dont see how he could pull off that illusion, and honestly, it looks kinda fake too. when he's flying around, it looks like a green screen in the background as the canyon.

Ii dont know did he really flyed...but i read that levitation IS posible and there are some documents which confirm that... I actually doubt that he really flyed, this IS a great ilusion....but it s somehow hard to belive...isn t it? but maybe we should consider that as an option?

I have studied magic. Magicians don't watch other magicians to learn how they "did it"... they WANT to get fooled just like everyone else. If they know how it was done, then they marvel at the skill that was used.
