  • What a wonderful video, thank you so much for posting this! My Dad, "Zeke" Zarchy" trumpeter & Mstr Sargeant is in the foreground (6:02 in the video, trumpet in his right hand).

If you "you tube" Zeke Zarchy, you'll be in for a treat. In the interview, Dad speaks of that very concert at the Queensbury All-Service Club. That's when General Doolittle, along with General Eisenhower, addressed Maj. Miller and his men, and recieved very good news.

Dad passed at 93, & with music in his heart.

  • @chettmansberger Hello. Although I never got to meet your Dad we have seen him a lot over the last few years on various TV shows appearing as guest Trumpet on various tribute show to Glenn. I was sending him our magaine regularly up until he died. Is sadly missed I'm sure. So Glad this film pleased you. big band buddies.

  • MrKernig72 are you in Bill Bakers band? I saw Bill Bakers band in Clarinda Iowa a couple of years ago. I am in the Tom Daugherty Orchestra that was performing that same year.

  • @jive1972 Hi. No I'm not a member of Bill Baker's band but know him well. I was in contact with Tom but never got over to meet him at Clarinda last time he was playiung there. On the lead up to my download film you will see my website and you can find a mail link to me on that. Would be good to talk.

  • No this was on the 29th July 1944 shortly after Glenn arrived in the UK. He went missing on the 15th December 1944. The last concert played with him was December 12th 1944 at the Queensbury All-Services Club in London.

His plane was lost over the English channel, possibly brought down by bombs jettisoned by a returning squadron of Lancasters after an aborted raid over Germany.

  • Its a pity the quality is not better but as you say a 'fantastic document' please let your Glenn Miller friends know. I hope you saw Pt. 1 of this posting.

  • I refuse to believe General Jimmy Doolittle or Gen. Patton sounded like "The Chipmonks", as they do in most recordings. Even in the 1940's, the NEW WORLD ORDER must have epitomized the ideal man (as put forth to the general public) as being effeminized and altered the recorded voice of such great, real men as Patton and Doolittle. What a disgrace! ALSO.. Trombones RULE !

  • Pure History.

  • Check out trombonist Nat Peck chewing gum at one point.Wonderful film of Ray Mckinley at his drums. How I wish there were a little more to study. As far as I understand, this is the only film of the AAF band in existance other than the sequence from a 'March of Time' film made before the band left the States.I understand that 30 mins exists,15 mins silent,15 with sound.Maybe more will surface one day but unlikely now. There is a great photo of Zeke & Peanuts in Paris in George Simons Miller book.

  • @hartleypatterson On the 24th July 1994 I attended the 50th anniversary concert set in the same school grounds. The orchestra was the late Herb Miller's, led by his son, John, and augmented by a substantial string section. 'Peanuts' Hucko guested; I have two photos of Peanuts in front of this building - taken 50 years apart. (I did not take the first!).

The stage was covered and there was a tremendous storm about 15 minutes after the concert ended.

  • any sign of Benny? hmmm

  • @chettmansberger I had the pleasure of meeting your Dad in 1984 when making a documentary about the Miller band for BBC Radio - he was in the Uk with Peanuts Hucko and Ray McKinley - three real gentlemen and your father was extremely kind and patient with me - my favourite moment was when I asked what he was doing these days - I assumed he would say "retired, playing golf" - instead he said "I've just come off tour with Blood, Sweat And Tears"! From Swing To Rock - some career!
