Kaneto Shindō (新藤 兼人 Shindō Kaneto?, born April 28, 1912), Hiroshima, Japan) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter.

Born in Hiroshima, Shindō first joined the film developing lab of Shinkō Kinema in 1934. He later moved to the art department and began writing scripts on his own. He worked with Kenji Mizoguchi on several films, most notably being in charge of the sets for The 47 Ronin. He made his debut as a screenwriter with the film Nanshin josei in 1940. Moving to Shōchiku, he began writing scripts for Kōzaburō Yoshimura, scoring a critical hit with A Ball at the Anjo House in 1947. Shindō and Yoshimura left Shōchiku in 1950 to form the independent production company Kindai Eiga Kyōkai. In 1951, he made his debut as a director with Aisai monogatari.

Shindō has often made films dealing with Hiroshima or the atomic bomb, such as Children of Hiroshima, Lucky Dragon No. 5, and Sakura-tai Chiru. Many of his works also feature strong female characters (some demonic, as in Onibaba), many of which were played by the actress Nobuko Otowa (1925--1994), who eventually became his wife. Working in many genres, he even filmed a documentary about his mentor, Kenji Mizoguchi: The Life of a Film Director. Still active in his nineties, his recent films have focused on issues faced by the elderly. He has directed over 40 films and written over 200 scripts.

From 1972 to 1981 he served as chair of the Japan Writers Guild.

Nobuko Otowa (1 October 1925 -- 22 December 1994) was a Japanese film actress. She appeared in 134 films between 1950 and 1994. She was married to film director Kaneto Shindō. She posthumously won the award for best supporting actress at the 19th Japan Academy Prize for A Last Note, having been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer during its production.

Osamu Takizawa (滝沢 修 Takizawa Osamu?, 13 November 1906 -- 22 June 2000) was a Japanese actor. He was born in Ushigome, Tokyo, Japan. Starting at the Tsukiji Little Theater, Takizawa participated in a number of theatrical troupes before forming Gekidan Mingei with Jūkichi Uno. His was praised for his performance in Death of a Salesman and also directed a version of The Diary of Anne Frank. Perhaps his most notable film role was in Fires on the Plain.

  • I think that worst consequence of America dropping the atomic bombs on Japan is that it made everyone feel guilty for them, allowing them to conveniently cover up their horrific and inhuman campaign in Asia and their murder of millions of Chinese civilians. Germany would have to deal with stigma from the Holocaust for decades, but Japan would get to paint themselves as a victim, dispute having committed just as much evil, if not more.

  • @MissIndependent314 well, I agree with u partially, what America has fought against in the beginning - but now it's a threat to world-wide peace and freedom. As you can see, its no longer a 'protective', but 'aggressive' force on Earth. Things have changed for the worse.

  • It is ashamed that, in the west, almost everybody know Tienanmen massacre (around thousands of killing), but only few people know Nanjing massacre (around 1/3 million). Japaneses' deny arguments are everywhere on the youtube but no one cares that even Xiaobo Liu has said that Tienanmen massacre was exaggerated.

  • @S0ADxManiac I never said Germany we're rapists, I never "marked" them, infact I think Germany is quite smart and a good people, I blame their Austrian leader... as for Japan, the people we're totally brainwashed, they could have surrendered but they didn't want to. If you're gonna blame the American goverment then also blame the USSR goverment, the Japanese goverment... blame every goverment on earth, because anyone would do this to punish the scum who commited genocide in Asia.

  • @MultiSheepsheep I'm not blaming America at all, America isn't the problem, the fucking douchebag leaders of America ALONG with the douchebag leaders of other countries that fuck up and allow this shit to happen are to blame. You can't call Japanese and Russians savages because their soldiers did that.... not all Japanese/German people are rapists yet you condemn them all to be and use that statement to justify dropping a bomb and wiping out infants, children, women, and men.

  • @S0ADxManiac Then why are you blaming only America? Britain, Russia ( Especially Russia ), Italy, they killed A LOT of German civilians, why do you people always blame America? Jesus, I'm not American but I love the USA... well you do know that Russians/Japanese rape was a common sight throughout the war? Those filthy savages...

  • @MultiSheepsheep Japan killing Chinese civilians does not make it OK for us to kill Japanese civilians... You're essentially saying that "they killed innocents so it was ok for us to kill innocents" - War should be between soldiers of the countries, not brutal attacks on the women and children of the countries.

  • @MultiSheepsheep PS: Sorry for some of the spelling misstakes, I was in a hurry.

  • @BluesHarp60 Well, you do know that Japan killed over 5 million Chinese CIVILLIANS? Which is far, far more than what this atomic bomb did in Japan, and the Japanese desrved it, they we're just as bad as the nazis. Hell, Stalin was just as bad as the nazis only happened to beo n hte right side, if the USSR made atom bombs first we could kiss Europe goodbye.

  • i came here for a nuke... where is it?

  • @BLAZIKEN90000000 Your spelling is like a 5-years old nigga kid.

  • @BLAZIKEN90000000 The Nazis killed the Japanese??? I suggest you to drop the meth-pipe and walk away from your computer until your mind is clearing off... OMG!
