Terror Attack against IDF Forces Thwarted

Explosives were uncovered Sunday 22/10/06, north of Jenin, and were detonated in a controlled manner by Border Police sappers. "This area is very unsettled; we operate especially in Jenin and in Qabatiya, which are considered very serious strongholds. This is the first time the battalion deals with such incidents, but although these activities are new for us, the soldiers underwent through specialized training and are operating well," said the battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kfir.

"About two weeks ago, during the forces' operation in one of the routes leading into Jenin, the forces identified a pit in the road. It was about two meters by two meters, almost the size of a whole lane. The pit was open and empty, and we observed it," recalled Lieutenant Colonel Kfir. "The following day we observed a number of Palestinians covering the pit and from that moment we searched it frequently. Today, Sunday, as part of routine operations, we arrived at the intersection and noticed that there are lumps in the pit and that sparks are coming out of it. We later discovered that the sparks were caused by a gas tank. At this time, sappers were launched to the site, and it was then discovered that the pit contained explosives weighing thirty to forty kilograms, which are connected to a gas tank. After the sappers detonated the explosives it turned out that the explosives contained materials such as nails and pieces of iron which would have caused great damage. Our forces thwarted a serious terror attack."
