Animal Rights Vs Animal "Welfare" (part 2)

It's easy to underestimate how important spaying and neutering is. The pet population is out of control so unless we decrease the birth rate by supporting adoption and by not buying pets from pet shops or breeders, the pet population will continue rising; more shelters will be build only for animals to wait for a family that will never come.
"There are plenty of dogs who need homes that aren't from a rescue group." And you won't find these animals with a breeder! Support adoption. (:

Why not get the puppy from a rescue center? There are rescue centers even based solely on breed. (:

i am vegetarian but not yet vegan - i do understand that welfare is important but that can be increased by amounts we consume. i only buy natura products from the swiss coop and these conform to a good animal welfare standard. i avoid to buy any other animal products.
for those interested - dogs can be vegetarian too

Animal rights groups are upset about a bill making its way through the Iowa statehouse. House File 589 targets animal abuse whistleblowers
graphic video made by people sneaking onto farms to prove what they believe is animal cruelty. But many Iowa farmers said Monday that those people are the criminals and are giving the animal industry a bad name. The bill would make it a felony to produce and distribute those videos. Penalties include up to five years in prison

What do you think about that therapist, Ginger Peterson, and what she said about meat consumption and cognitive dissonance?

@like2bonree My thoughts exactly. To paraphrase, "Just as a person who owned human slaves could not claim consistently to be in favor of the abolition of slavery, a person who continues to support abortion 'rights' cannot consistently be an advocate of non-violence and opposing violence perpetrated against both humans and nonhumans." Not saying the author of this video is or isn' in favor of legalized abortion; but most animal rights activists seem to be shortsighted on this inconsistency.

evelusive spewed this nonsense (but then deleted it):
In listing your property you forgot to mention your children! Surely since you created them, fed them, clothed them, worked 40 hour weeks (minimum) to support them, you can do to them pretty much as you please right.
The very same arguement you used was used to protect the institution of slavery.

evelusive sez: In listing your property you forgot to mention your children!
So, just to be clear, in your view, and by your "reasoning":
1) Animals that are legally owned by people like dogs, mice, chimps, rats, snakes and cattle are considered property, and have been throughout human history. Therefore human children are property as well?
2) One who sees animals as property is more likely to believe that human slavery is OK?
Don't worry, you aren't a complete whack job, much!!!
Did you make this? I love it and want to use it tonight
thank you
