My 7yo son has SPD, ADHD, and aspergers. Our basement is full of sensory toys like, swings, ropes to climb and swing, rock climbing wall, ball pit, tunnel, huge soft building blocks, gym mat, trampoline, karate kick bags, and blankets. Everyone in the neighborhood likes to come over and play,,, that helps with his social awkwardness as well. Point being,,, he has come a long way. Sure,, he will always be quirky, but very high functioning. Did I mention how smart he is??

I have High Functioning Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. I had therapy when I was 7 yrs old (20 yrs old now going on 21) and the therapy I feel improved the symptoms of my High Functioning Autism a great deal. I learned how to self calm and therefore getting rid of most if not all of my meltdown. The therapy brought me back from a severe meltdown in which I dissociated, because of the sensory overload. I feel that they go together, but I guess if they don't have SPD then SPT won't help.

I am getting double vocal feedback at different locations in the entire video. If I click on the pause button I get to hear a single audio but see no video. This has happened on each video I have clicked on at this site. I don't think that it is my computer, just wanted to give you a heads up incase it is on your end. Tanya

for those that ask if it works, it works if the problem is a sensory issue. Just because they have autism doesn't mean they have sensory processing disorder. If you don't have SPD, SI really will not change anything. but for those who DO have SPD, SI can work miracles.

My daughter is 3 and a half and we believe she has SPD. I was interested to see what OT do. I am awaiting my referral from her Pediatrician. Thanks!

@dovey0 opposite, so Im trying to open my mind, that it may actually works, i would like to hear a person who believes in it and supports it, to see his/her ideas.

@dovey0 Yes, Im actually an Instructor therapist and all that, Im a pro ABA.

Im a mexican who went to study to Canada. I know that USA and Canada are in love with ABA, and have made several studies that support it.

But then I came back to Mexico, where they use SI, I dont think we have made any studies about it, but I talked to therapists and such and they told me it works it works, specially for children who dont like to be touched.

@gabyta0507 we are studying SI in clinical counseling 2 ... its known as a controversial therapy because most studies that have been done have shown no difference in children that have been in SI therapy. The empirically supported treatment for autism would be ABA (applied behavior analysis). There have been many studies that show ABA is successful with children with autism. Lovaas has done a lot of studies with ABA if you would like to look up his results.
