The ox has been used for farming for thousands of years. In China the ox is an honorable symbol of strength. I caught this intersection of the modern and the ancient from my classroom window. The ox was hard to miss as it stood in the field next to the rapidly constructed high-rise apartments and modern city being created on top of farm fields. The local farmers are still farming up to the last season, as they are all being pushed to the edges of the modern world.
