Total cost which included a change of flight (outbound leg) was 3,556,50 THB. 'Extras' included prebooked seat at a cost of 50 THB, 428 THB luggage fee (15KG) and 200,00 THB "Convenience Fee" which is their pseudonym for the credit card charge. The change of flight set me back 939,50 THB.

I'd recommend anyone flying with AirAsia to use their mobile check-in facility if you didn't take a laptop with you. Details of how to use it can be found on their homepage in the left hand menu under the heading "Self Check-in".

There's nothing complicated about it at all and all you have to do is to SMS your flight details using the format described on their homepage. You can then confirm your flight using your cellphone and print your boarding pass using the barcode they text you (the airport AirAsia printer scans it automatically), or print it by typing the check-in code in manually. Once you've printed your boarding pass, all you have to do is to hand in your luggage at the dropoff point. Saves all that hassle of queuing for an hour or so if the flight happens to be full.
