Ball in the milkjug is tough. For future reference the best way is to lower the arm while leaning as close as you can. When you throw it, don't let it go from the palms but instead, grip it with your fingers with your hand facing up instead of down. This will give the ball a backward spin and it wont bounce off the rim so badly. You still need to be deadincenter though so its still ridiculously hard.
