Dinner in Akabane Iwabuchi at a seafood izakaya and then a few drinks at a Japanese snack bar. Some candid info on snack bars and hostess bars. Thanks Jack. UPDATE!!!! This restaurant has closed (May 2009) and is now a a gut grill. Things move and change fast sometimes so enjoy and perhaps a vid on the new place will come:)

  • So you can still smoke in an indoor area in japan??

  • @etegg11 Yup :P

  • Man, your food videos are killing me ... kindly, that is!

Todd, any chance that you can walk all of us verrry slowly thru' a Japanese supermarket so that we can see exactly what foods are for sale therein, and how the food differs from US stuff, please? I love sloooow tours.

  • @GimmeKitty Yea...... I want to do that just waiting for the right moment. Hang in there! Thanks:)

  • Thanks a lot for the comment. Yea in Japan the way the "strange" food is prepared and presented makes it easier to eat for a newcomer. I had time to try things before I came due to my wife being Japanese. There still are a few things I need time to get used to but over all it all good stuff.

  • No.... and I was more of a Halo freak but had to sell the Xbox... to busy for now. Hope I can get on again some day

  • Just concerning the food I could totally live in Japan. All the things I like!

  • I love all your videos it made me smile seeing the Hored t-shirt :)

  • @5661Cho

maybe WAKASAGI NO TEMPURA (deep-fried pond smelt(kinds of smelt fish)).maybe maybe not.

  • @toddatron So, apparently there are no burger buns in Japan. Can you find some :D

  • The definition of bars in Japan I guess would be perfect.

  • The guy with you is a trip. Funny and a star in his own right.

  • @toddatron Oh, I see. I see ...

I reckon you'd have to get permission to film, in a supermarket, eh?

Can you carry a concealed camera or some such?

I'll confess to you that the thing that initially stunned me is that the "Conbini" and convenience stores are so well-provisioned and stocked.

Then again, I associate the Japanese with stuff of "quality" and stuff that is quality made, so I guess it really isn't all that shocking that their convenience stores would be stocked with what they R!

  • @toddatron Oh, and need I add that the sheer variety of fried foods and tempura has me shell-shocked!

And ... I love those little triangle-shaped nori-wrapped rice snacks, whatever they're called. Seattle's Uwajimaya sells them and other Asian foods, too. I guess you can just google "Uwajimaya in Seattle" and see what you can see, eh?

Oh, and I understand your NOt liking Boston's winters. Man, do I! Am from NYC so yeah ... I get that. Are the winters where you are all that harsh, Todd?
