Dark Chambers is a video game released for the ill-fated Atari 7800. If you've played the classic Arcade game Gauntlet once in your life, you will see the similarities instantly. You move in a dungeon, there are monsters spawning from some kind of nest, they get less powerful each time they're hit until they disappear. Everything feels similar to Gauntlet which was itself probably inspired by Dandy, an old game released on Atari 8-bit computers. Dark Chambers was itself also released on Atari 8-bit computers and the good old Atari 2600. Given the small library of games released for the 7800, Dark Chambers is one of the best games on this system.

  • I still feel bad for John Palevich, creator of "Dandy" and then this, "Dark Chambers". Atari robbed him by stealing his idea from Dandy to make "Gauntlet" 3 years later, and after John stopped working for Atari. John settled out of court for a Gauntlet arcade game and his full rights to his Dandy game. Thus we have Dark Chambers here. But who would want it after Gauntlet was already out? I feel John got robbed and feel really sorry for him and his creative ideas being stolen like that.

  • Yeah I know, and this was more common in the old days of gaming that a company or person would rip off someone else's game, leading to legal battles where the most powerful would always win. This sucks, I'd go crazy if that'd happen to me.

  • Oh my God, I can't believe how different this is to the Original! It's far too fast & Manic!

The Original was Charming, Atmospheric, ..Relaxing even! But this is a bit OTT!

Still, I'm not going to be too Bias as I haven't played it. It's still has the Original Sound effects I've noticed. That's a nice touch.

Short Video. I would have watched at least 5 mins of it.

Thanks for uploading my friend. Take Care.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it's a short vid, most of my videos back then were about the first level of different video games.

  • I'm getting an Atari 7800 off ebay pretty soon. I am a sucker for Atari, and I think 7800 is the best version of it.

This game looks very charming. Is it comparable to Gauntlet?

  • Well, it's pretty much the same concept. I think Gauntlet is better, but this is still a good game, especially for the 7800.

  • Actually this is a remake of a atari 2600 game of the same name, and gauntlet actually copied that game

  • the 2600 version is also worth getting a hold of, even though its a little slow paced. One of my favorite Atari 2600 games

  • I have this game for the Atari XE system!

  • I always played the atari 2600 version of this with my dad. Happy memories

  • Glad you know the history too then bro. Yeah, it's messed up! Should be a crime! I wish John would of took it to court though, he would of got so much more. Instead of settling for a Gauntlet arcade game and calling it even? Lol.

  • Nice upload. I never played the game but would of liked to.
