This is a Breton tune I've played on cittern since I first heard it on a Gerald Trimble album in the 80s. (Will someone please tell its name? Here's my rendition of the tune played clawhammer style on a Gold Tone Bob Carlin BC-350+ banjo.

The Gold Tone Banjo Company signaled its intent to continue fine-tuning and expanding its line of openback banjos, when it began collaborating with distinguished clawhammer maestro Bob Carlin. For over 30 years Carlin has spread the artistry of clawhammer banjo through his worldwide performances, his innumerable recording projects and his banjo teaching materials, scholarly writings, lectures and workshops.

Gold Tone offers three Bob Carlin signature model banjos: the BC-350, the BC-350+ and the BC-120. All three use the same 12" pot and brass tone ring.

Here's my recent interview with Bob Carlin on the evolution of these signature models.

In my search for a deeper sound, wider fingerboard and a scoop, I recently bought myself a BC-350+. Im quite pleased with its sound and playability. Mine is set up with a skin head.

Visit my website http://www.banjocrazy.com/ where I sell Gold Tone instruments. Also featured on the site are exclusive articles and interviews with players such as Bob Carlin, Adam Hurt, Marcy Marxer, Cathy Fink, Cathy Moore, Gordon Johnston and others. • Did you ever figure out the name of this tune?

  • @ggrunau Nope, still scanning the ethers in search of its lost identity. Let me know if anyone finds it.

  • Guy, I love what your father wrote over 60 years ago: "Tradition is not a form to be imitated but the discipline that gives integrity to the new" Robert Jay Wolff

What a beautiful way with words! Obviously, you've got it too.

  • What a great tune and wonderful platforming of chordal subtext .. Great work !! Yours Guy

  • @guywolff

I love the way you express that: "wonderful platforming of chordal subtext." Recently I've been having fun playing this on a cittern I converted to a banjola, a wooden banjo. I hope to post of version with that instrument soon. Thanks so much for you comment. I really appreciate it. And thanks for listening.

  • @strumstering I have a beautiful old Pullman . It says "patent applied for 1887 " . No inlays like the production Pulmans .. A very understated beauty .. All the best and great to meet you .. GUy

  • @guywolff I notice you have a Gold Tone OT-6, a 5-string with an extra low string. Very cool. As an independent product for GT I think I need to check one of these out. How do you like it. And, you have a great collection of banjos! It'll take me a while to go through your videos - you have a million! Great playing and singing! Looking forward to meeting you.

  • @strumstering As almost all the Breton dance tunes, there is no name ... but the dance is called "An dro" and it means "A round" and come from the south part of Brittany

It's amazing I am "breton" and I play old american tunes on banjo, and some of you are playing bretons tunes ... thanks for great playing, and I apologize for my broken english !

  • @Shannon2006f150 Sure. It's a calf skin - probably about medium thickness - made by Gold Tone. I had them put it on at the factory.

    Cheers,

  • Paul,

May I ask what type, brand and thickness of skin head you are using? Thanks, Shannon
