These are photos my wife and I made during a recent trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina. The incredible beauty of the funerary monuments in the Recoleta Cemetary is a testament not only to the amazing skill of European craftsmen, but also to the great wealth of Argentina at the turn of he 19th century. These monuments alone are worth the journey. The music is "E lucevan le stelle" from the opera "Tosca" by Puccini. It is sung by Placido Domingo. All photos were made using the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3.

Here is the translation of the aria sung by Placido Domingo:

How the stars used to shine there,
How sweet the earth smelled,
The orchard gate would creak,
And a footstep would lightly crease the sand.
She'd come in, fragrant as a flower,
And she'd fall into my arms.
Oh! sweet kisses, oh! lingering caresses,
Trembling, I'd slowly uncover her dazzling beauty.
Now, my dream of love has vanished forever.
My last hour has flown, and I die, hopeless!
And never have I loved life more!
