Starion production car (GroupE) racing from Amaroo Park in Australia 1986.
I used to prepare the silver Starion (No64) owned and driven by Des Gibbs.
Note: Amaroo Park no longer exists it is now a housing estate.

  • thanks for posting, this stuff was awsome, watched a lot as a kid. do you have any more? Walden RX-7 footage?

  • No that's all I have. I am told the Channel7 video archive of this period of racing was thown out.

  • Great stuff, believe this race is from 1986 though, not 1985 :)

  • You may be correct. I was actually there in the pits that day I couldn't remember if it was 1985 or 1986.

  • The song at the end is "We Built This City" by Starship! An awesome song for some awesome footage.

  • More inspiration for my Starion rebuild.

  • Wasnt a true production race in the 80's if PETER FITZGERALD wasn't up the pointy end !!!!

  • Its likely (though there is varying reports) that the AMSCAR, Bathurst stuff etc that was filmed by ATN-7 in Sydney was used as Landfill for the Epping Tennis courts, however some stories suggest copies of the masters were made and are in possession of a former 7 motorsport identity..

However the footage shot by HSV-7 in Melbourne, like the AGP's and other races from Calder & Sandown, would have been kept in Melbourne, and PERHAPS is still stored in their archives.

    ABC did not keep everything

  • Fucken assholes threw away quality footage eh mate??Im glad you shared this one with us...thanks a lot gtpumps..

    you are the man!!!!!

  • seriously?? thats disgusting, these were some of the best years of australian motor sport.

we need to keep these old historic tracks, amaroo should never have sold same as oran
