I adore him singing Verdi and Verismo.

At first I was slightly put off by the lack of legato, the hard barking attacks, the 'h's in the melismas ... but the more I listened to it the more it seemed to embody supremely confident swagger, and jovial hedonism ... with the slightly fast tempo giving an impatient "Let's get it on ... it'll be fun!" expediency... And of course the sheer magnificence of the voice is perfect for an overpoweringly masculine interpretation of DG . Many excellent versions on the tube .
Keenlyside, Ramey...

Suprisingly not up to the singing I have been used to hearing from this formidable baritone (not much coloring & it sounds rushed (?) . . .will always enjoy this singer & lament that he was taken away from us so very early, but sigh, that's fate. TX for posting!

bellissima romanza, peccato non abbia mai cantato don Giovanni in teatro!

The rythm is not consistent. Why does he accelerate? Too fast anyway

i love his tone, what a genious , shame he died so young

I just re-read Scotto`s biog. She thinks that he would have been one of the best Don Giovanni`s around, had he sang the role more often. There isn`t a voice to match his sound.

Agreed! it was deliberate, a good choice for Mozart anyhow! Mozart was so "staccatish"...Who said this aria had to be sung legatissimo as every body does?
Magnificent!

Perhaps, in selecting the faster tempo, he was bringing out the darker, more impatient side of Giovanni.
