Author, historian and Emmy Award nominee the Rev. Dr. Randall Balmer, distinguished visiting professor at Emory Universitys Candler School of Theology, addresses the intersection of religion and presidential politics in this April 2, 2009 lecture, So Help Me God: Religion and the Presidency since John F. Kennedy.
A scholar, documentary filmmaker, and Episopal priest, Balmer is professor of American religious history at Barnard College, Columbia University and the 2009 McDonald Family Chair on the Life and Teachings of Jesus and their Impact on Culture at Candler School of Theology. An editor for Christianity Today since 1999, his commentaries on religion in America also have appeared in news publications across the country, including the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Slate. This lecture is based on the most recent of his dozen books, God in the White House.

Very thoughtful and very thought provoking. I wish everyone in the religious right or the moral majority or whatever it is they are calling themselves now should get a chance to listen to the summation - the last three minutes in particular!

I read Randell Balmers Thy Kingdom Come before I knew much about his background. The more I know about him and his work the more I appreciate his honesty, and integrity. Thank you for making this fine lecture available to the public.
