@ShellyBean1966 I like the Shades of Blue recording better. It has a nice gospel sound, and the melody moves smoothly along. The Edwin Starr & Blinky recording has background instrumentation that is found in most Motown recordings. It isn't necessary in the Shades of Blue recording. The melody and the vocal arrangements are enough.

Edwin Starr DID write this song...and it was originally performed by The Shades of Blue. I know this because my parents Bob and Linda were original members of The Shades of Blue! :) VERY proud daughter here, but I enjoy hearing other versions of this song as well!
