Subaru 5558, James calls them not saints but sinners as they had no saving faith in God, maybe they thought they were believing, like many catholics do, but there was no good fruit in their behaviour. Check other letters- Christians are called: saints, not sinners...

Subaru5558, you're dead wrong on it (I'm an ex-catholic). James talks about the true fruit of the true faith wich is good, moral life. The faith comes from listening to what God says. Those people James referred to had not real faith, eventually he calls them: sinners... Ephesians 2;8 says not by works but by faith, the gift of God..

@THEAVANT2009 If you read and understand what the whole book of James is saying then you will realize that the reformed view of justification solo fide is not biblical. The reformed view would say that your reference to the christians who were not living good lives, but had faith would be fine as long as they have faith. The Catholic view teaches that our faith produces good works which make us more righteous. How could you disagree with that?

@THEAVANT2009 People like John Macarthur who lead others to think that the Catholic Church teaches that salvation comes through works. He misleads many. The Catholic Church's soteriology is Sola Gratia (Grace Alone), it has always taught that we can only come to salvation by God's grace. Never has it taught that we can work are way into heaven. Righteousness however can be infused by doing good works, but salvation cannot be obtained by doing works alone.

@subaru5558 one doesn't instead it makes it out to where humans have to work for salvation. Read the entire book of James it was sent to christians who weren't living righteous lives who instead were only having faith but were still sinning . Once you understand this then it is impossible to claim that Catholicism has anything to do with Scripture they are completely different.

@subaru5558 Wait you really need to read and understand what the entire book of James is saying. Yes Faith without works is dead but that doesn't make a basis of living to do "Good" works to become righteous before God. It says in the bible that "all works are filthy rags" In the first epistle of John it talks about how yes you need works but that's only to show your faith (work based faith) COMPLETELY different from catholic theology. One does good works out of love for God obeying for lovesake

Okey, you seem to be a little disturbed with catholic teachings and at the same time don´t even try to understand what they really is about. God is our loving father. He does not simply ignore horrible crimes against him. He wants us to love each other the way he does. He will forgive anything, but only with our sincere regret and will to be better. What you say about purgatory is very clumsy. Go talk to a catholic personally for a more fruitful dialogue.

John Macarthur should really try and study what The Catholic Church really believes before he misleads others. He is one of the most ignorant men I have ever had the displeasure of watching him as he proclaims to be a man of God. He is a man of his own pride!!! If I were him I don't think I would be damning a Church that wrote and canonized the book (Bible) that he bases his whole faith on..... "Faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead"-St.James Take that Johnny boy! Your a heretic
@ShootNeutrality We can't do it on our own...we fall short...that's why we needed to be saved....not sinless, but as if we were....only because of Christ's act of love by sacrificing his life..he deserves all the praise and honor...not us..we can't do it. God made the way...not us. Try to be perfect...you can't...that's why you need a saviour. Now that we are saved, we have Christ to help us. He is the lamb that our sins our transfered on too...it doens't mean we have a green light to sin.

What are these lies about the Catholic Church "murdering 50 million people" ??? there was not even a Medieval time when there was 50 million people in Europe and the greatest calamity was the Bubonic Plague , not any religious wars. So where is this equivocation from ? From Hitler ? Hitler was a real Catholic ? Did he not kill five million Polish Catholics ? What kind of baloney are you people taking about. The Bolsheviks were mostly Jews and killed 100 million people in Russia ??
