@aarossell ... and everyone else. As a homebrewer, i am fully aware of that. I was being sarcastic. I find it ironic that craftbrewers can put watermelon, or blueberries, or pumpkin in their beer, but they knock Budweiser, cuz it has corn in it.
-
@aarossell I understand that but, you forget that during these times the grain bill had a many times lower percent of these adjuncts. Most of this was because of war times and done out of necessity. Over the years they use more and more of them and less and less quality malts. This is the specific reason why the craft movement is so huge. No one wants that pale nasty gutter swill. It's clearly done for profit and not taste or historic value, that anyone can see by tasting one.

@78recordrepair Traditional beer is water, yeast, hops, and barley malt. Corn, wheat, rice, etc... these are adjuncts and may be used but are not necessary. It's fun to play with recipes and develop different flavors and styles using adjuncts, but traditional beer does not include corn.

@riothero313 you're describing modern corn use, it was historically used by most, if not all breweries in America... and many in Europe as well. Corn provides simple fermentables without adding heavy body or flavor to cover up the sweet malts or hops. Before prohibition, American beer used corn, wheat, sometimes rice, because that's what was originally available to our young country, and that's just how we traditionally made our beer. Beer can have corn in it if the brewers want to use it...
-
They were putting corn in their beer recipes before the 1800s... the best barley was still in Europe so adjuncts were prominent. I think that if people are going to be passionate about fighting the big American breweries they should be remotely knowledgeable about our history.

This is a "relieved" video. =p
Please explain the "Things Fall Apart" quote.
Yam Beer?

@Helblind There is a quote from Achebe at the end of the original video, so I just wanted to find another quote from him that was a bit more goofy for this one. Side note: I discovered there's a ton of talk about yams in Things Fall Apart.
