This piece comes from the set 'Onze pièces pour piano', which are associated with Tiersen's score to the Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie 'Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain', the soundtrack of which was issued on CD in 2001. I got to know these pieces three years ago when I was asked to play some at a wedding, but since then I have been intrigued by the phenomenal interest in them here on YouTube - I suspect more attempts have been made at these pieces than any others, apart from video game music. In style, they come across as a pleasant blend of Phillip Glass and Erik Satie. They are certainly very Gallic, and obviously enormously popular in France.

  • I think it is possible to play these pieces in another tempo like Tiersen. What do you think?

I recently recorded something of Tiersen.

I think you have the right tempo!

    Thank you Philipp!

  • @clavis55 Thank you Marcus. It is so long since I recorded this that I can't remember what Tiersen's tempo was. I'm sure you can do your own interpretation as long as it is within the bounds of the score. If you do something radically different, you would have to describe it as a 'paraphrase'!

  • @PsearPianist: Bonjour, I am a french "fan" of Tiersen...Your interpretation is really good! Have you heard about "Good by Lenin" and "Tabarly"'s soundtrack, both from Yann too?? if not, you should listen.... (the album "Rue des cascades" is amazing too...)

Bon....I'm waiting for a piece of Philip Glass by now... ^^

Thank you for sharing your fingers!

  • @GlassAuChopin Thanks for that. I will look out for the albums you mention. I have recorded some Philip Glass - do search for it on my channel!

  • @PSearPianist I found them, sorry! so I've just listened you playing Wichita Vortex Sutra and the Metamorphosis and...you play them much more better than Glass himself does nowadays!

An other brillant minimalist that maybe you already know: Jeroen Van Veen, and his minimal works...

  • @GlassAuChopin Thank you for that. I don't know Van Veen, but will look him out. Although I would not describe him as a minimalist, I am a big fan of Louis Andriessen.

I only changed the tempo of the pieces and make more rubati. Thank you very much Philipp. You helped me a lot!!!

    Have a great week!!!

  • @44433391 If you are referring to sightreading, what i mean is that I would only want to put a video on here that has my considered interpretation of a piece. If I put videos on here of music I had never seen before and represented my first ever play through, they might be full of mistakes, and would not give a proper realisation of the composer's intentions.

  • @r0xyri0t Thank you - and good luck with your own study of the piece!

  • This is lovely :) I'm learning this (started today) x
