Fans are speeding up :-) (beginning of Leopard instalation). After that, all came back to normal. But the aluminium beast screams "POWER".

  • if its is so noisy can i just put leopard installing and then it dosent make that nois?

  • @sallingkash well, that happens if you modify Leopard instalation disc to fit onto single layer DVD, that thing happens because of the media check which doesn't count with such delay and in this state, so there is no power management yet. It happened on every PowerPC mac. But G5 Powermac has high maximum speed of fans and there is 7 of them, its just more noticeable. I have never heard that loudness when doing usual work, even encoding video at full CPU load for many hours.

  • Sounds like my quad G5 when it's running hot =]

  • This is older G5 from 2003 (AGP, 2xSingle core), do you have got water cooled version?

  • in other words the G5 will stop working altogether, sorry to say this, but to get it repaired will be expensive especially from apple!

  • ins normal state, it does that only when bootig leopard instalation (optimized for single layer DVDs) burned on DVD-R disc, it just take longer. So the power and fan management isnt loaded for about 10 minutes, after first screen of leopard instalation, it came back to normal. I burned three discs before I figure it out :-) .

  • sounds like a plane taking off

  • Yes the quad is watercooled. It's not quite as noisy as the dual 2 Ghz which sounds like a jet engine even two rooms away.

  • I just got my dual 1.8 gig g5

for 200$ it was going to be a case mod

but the machine runs so quite and with the

4gigs of ram and bluray drive its making a hell of a server for storing memory and just downloading "stuff" all day long and deffinetly takes thestress off my mac book pro and when i run windows 7 on it it screams! Love mine!

  • Don't be fooled by the age of these G5s they are very powerful Macs and still run great.

  • @The91489 You suck.

  • @The91489 ok if you can prove it fine, but until then they don;t suck as much as oohhh i dunno, a windows machine.
