This video was created for a psychology class project. The main point of this video is not to bash Disney, but merely to highlight the stereotypical gender-roles, the construction of femininity/masculinity, and the portrayal of dominant/single women in its animated feature films. It is obvious that Disney did not invent these stereotypes, but rather reinforces them in society. Media plays a huge role in socializing individuals. That is, conveying to males and females certain beliefs, values, and customs to live by. Disney was the main focus of this project because this socializing process starts at a very young age. Disney is at the pinnacle of the children's media industry. No other company has the influence or impact that this multinational conglomerate has.

  • @TinyAbii Feminism does not bash YOUR female wants of wanting to be be a good mother. The desire to be a good mother is not a "natural" thing as you have stated, it is an acquired desire. This video did not say you were weak for wanting to be a mother, it is simply implying that women should not be portrayed as ONLY a wife, mother, servile, with an unrealistic figure..etc.

  • I watched this in media studies today AND plus i learned more of the stereotypes in another class. As a woman I am sick and tired of us girls being the damsel in distress and being portrayed as the passive and weak. Its time for a change.

  • I grew up with Disney. I learned alot from Disney movies and what i learned is that you should never judge people because of how they look, reading is a GOOD thing, marry for love, a woman can do anthing she sets her mind to, I should do my chores or els the house is disgusting, wash my hands, ect. What people should wory about is the t.v. shows like Hannah Montana. Those shows show kids that being rude and makeing someone feel dumb because they didnt get somthing the first time is ok.

  • You are so Bias...These arent even Disney's ideas, these are traditional stories that disney made movies off of, And you dont even give credit to Mulan who was a proud warrior, The Lion King was based ooff of hamlet so and even in that Nnala always beat Simba in a fight, and the Beast didnt look like that out of male symbolism it was cuz he's a f*cking BEAST, finding nemo...single father, caring for his kid, tarzan was representaition of a time period where females behaved like that..Come on!

  • @TWBennett1 These videos, though valid only use characters that support their points, they never seem to use male characters such as Milo who was not muscular, was not violent. But hey ho...your previous comment is also excellent :)

  • @MuLaTiSiMa i couldn't have said it better!

  • Does anyone know what the song is that starts at 1:50

  • i dont get it... what are we complaining about?? Is Disney supposed to portray a "perfect" little society that has nothing to do with the society we live in??? Characters are made according to the ways and behavior of real people. If you have a problem with the way our society is portrayed in EVERY single movie or cartoon then change the world, heroes! tssss

  • @MsSbolin I find it a little bit ironic that you are speaking out against being Disney forcing the idea that motherhood and subservience is the only way to be happy, and then you apologize for having an opinion. I completely agree with you, i just felt the need to point out the irony. I suppose it's just proof that Disney's brainwashing has had effects :/

  • notice how all the evil woman are ugly! can we plzz have a cute evil woman plzz

  • And why is every woman's happy ending always to get married and become a mother? Especially being a mother/homemaker. It's like they're telling us the only way to be happy and fulfilled as a woman is to make babies and become subservient. But I guess it only bothers me because I'm more of a free spirit. Sorry for ranting.

  • Actually, I think there's much more sexism toward women than men in Disney movies. Even as a star or main character, women are always portrayed as being weaker or unable to provide for themselves. Any woman who doesn't have a man in her life is always sad and helpless, waiting for her prince to come save her. And every woman seems to have this perfect barbie doll figure, except for older women who are usually maids or mother figures. And why is every woman's happy ending always to get married a
