Brilliant record, beginning to end. The thing about the old days was that we were into 'records' more than simply songs or bands. There were tons of these great records that didn't produce careers for the artists who made these nearly perfect records. I don't think younger people have been that way since the Beatles. Their arrival spawned generations of band loyalty. People would buy a band's new album based on one record and never admit that they hated 80% of the tracks on it. Again and again.

The woman is really wailing! Some of the best groups of those days had a woman or womens singing lead with men accompanying them: The Orlons, Exxex. A different kind of vibe than soul, but no less a valid part of rock and roll or Black American music.
