Please enjoy our tribute to Peter Schickele, an incredible composer whose career has spanned many genres and defied classification. The Theodore Presser Company is honored to publish the music of Mr. Schickele (and P.D.Q. Bach!) as we celebrate his 75th birthday alongside the 2010-2011 concert season.
Please check out the Theodore Presser YouTube channel to view our favorite videos, and stay tuned for the next Composer Portrait!
Peter Schickele was a student in Aspen in the summer of 1962. The final student concert that August was a spoof concert that he arranged. I believe it was the first time that he entered a concert hall by swinging in to the stage via a rope from the balcony. Unfortunately, he really didn't measure the length of the rope prior to his descent. I am proud to say that I was there for the birth of PDQ Bach.
