Billy Corgan talks to Tribune rock critic Greg Kot about the fall of Q101, the many faces of the Smashing Pumpkins and why he chooses not to cash in on 90′s nostalgia.
@VivRevolution You sound way off to me I am wondering if your even listening to the same interview. He sounds free of anger, thoughtful, intuitive and calm when speaking about his creative project. He is also candid about himself and his own flaws always. I like hearing his insights about our society and his band- his creative project.
I love Billy Corgan but he needs a huge lesson in humility. The amount of bitterness and anger he has towards his old band, other bands and even his fans is ridiculous. I truly believe that he keeps the Smashing Pumpkins alive because of spite. He's still talented, he still writes beautiful music, and I even respect his reasons for not playing old music. Leave all that toxic anger behind, let it all go, and just simply do what you love.
This is great. I saw Smashing Pumpkins for the first time back in November and the whole nostalgia trip thing was completely taken on board. They played a lot of new music and a very nice varied set. While I maintain that Siamese is one of my favourite albums of all time, (given they actually played a bit of) I respect the new music. So should any band. They obviously want to push what's new and what is of their new standing. Shame that so many of the audience didn't get it.
I can't tell if the interviewer is kind of a dick or just doing a bad job at catering to "fans" who experienced the 90's Smashing Pumpkins. Awesome video!
This explains a lot of questions I've always wondered about him and SP The old band was a blip in time and gone. We all are nostalgic and music is one the first things we can attach to a period of time. We patronize a concert to take us to the old days yet many "old" bands now feel fake, disingenuous, Billy is right, if SP all rejoined, it would almost feel fake, a fraud -- take some methadone to get through the pain. Also fake is radio, just like he said. Awful what they have done to it.
He is a true artist!! A great interview!!
