    Actually, they are arachnids but not spiders. They have neither venom glands nor silk glands. And many species eat plant life as well as bugs and bird poop. They are also commonly known as 'harvestmen' and there are over 6000 species, and there have been 400 million year old fossils found that show these creatures have not changed much at all.
