I have a GE shoebox recorder with AC bias, tone control and electrical pause. It also uses a flat belt to drive the flywheel, and gears for the spindles. I think it is from the 1980's. Sounds pretty good too.

I remember these machines. GE seemed to be going cheap (DC bias, really?) on their machines. I remember your 5" R2R Swinger with DC bias. No excuse for that, is there? One would expect better from a name like GE.
What does the transport look like? You say it is different from the Philips. Any chance of a vid showing it off?

I could show it off sometime. Also there is a video going to come up soon of one of GE's AC bias cassette machines. I believe there's a good chance you have seen in on eBay before, and it's very similar to your Lloyd's.

That is such a neat looking machine! It has a very strong family resemblance to the Philips series machines, although the Philips was obviously a better quality machine despite the gunkificated belts.

Even though it has a similar control to the Philipes, the transport design in this is way different.

My sister had an earlier version of that one--no IC's, but where the graphic is on the left, next to the shuttle puck, there was a recording volume level light. It was very early seventies vintage, and one of the first cassette machines I ever saw.

Did it have a metal speaker grille and a light to show then it was overdriving recording?
