The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is gearing up for snow and ice season. State maintenance crews are preparing equipment and supplies that will help keep the state moving when the snow flies. Stockpiles of rock salt, salt brine and calcium chloride have been replenished. The cabinet uses advanced forecasting tools available from the National Weather Service to prepare for developing weather. Kentucky has 27,583 miles of state-owned highways, including 762 interstate miles, 650 parkway miles and almost 3,700 state primary miles.
