Ramir, a 6-week-old Indian rhinoceros, drank three bottles of milk from one of his caretakers, Marcia Diehl, a San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park keeper. The male calf is being bottle-fed more than a gallon of milk five times per day. He weighs 350 pounds, up from 150 pounds at birth. Ramir was born Dec. 23 to a first-time mother that was not producing enough milk and was not attentive to the newborn. A cold spell during his first few days led to hypothermia. Veterinarians and keepers intervened and have been caring for him since. Ramir is the 58th Indian rhinoceros born at the Wild Animal Park since 1978, making the Park the foremost breeding facility in the world for this endangered species.

togio100 you are correct. Cows milk is supplemented with all this little guy needs to grow healthy and strong. Its a tough job but someone has to do it!

I think it's cows milk supplemented with the necessary vitamins and fats
I doubt that they "milked" the mother rhino

They say "milk" but do they use cow milk or something else as a substitute?

I'd love to do that!

Thank you so much for posting wonderful videos like this.
I especially like the fact that you also include a complete text description of the related information for people who, for whatever reason, might not be able to turn on the volume while watching the video.
Also, I wish I could be there to help care for that darling baby rhino!
