how have you got the midi feedback working with ableton?

it depends :
-clips send a message Note On with velocity = 127 on 1st play, when it loops velocity is reduced (i don't remember the value but Midi Monitor on Mac will show you). Whatever, as i have scaled the colour of each button between 7 range of velocity, it shows a different colour.

-for musical visual feedback, I use the technique of Protools : one track called "midi track1" receive and send Midi (midi in and midi out), and another track "midi track2" is midi with an Audio Unit. The input of this second track is midi track 1. Easy, isn't it ? Busses in Ableton are very useful, audio or midi busses
