In Judaism benevolence shown to the deceased is referred to as "true loving-kindness" because unlike kindness bestowed upon the living, the dead can never reciprocate the favor or even show their appreciation. Despite three heart attacks Ireneusz Slipek, a former priest, worked every day for 22 years, including the day he died, to restore the Jewish cemetery in Warta. Ireseusz was inpired by the teaching of Pope John Paul II who taught that Jews were Christians' "older brother in faith". During his lifetime Ireneusz's main concern was what would become of the cemetery after his death. Today, his brother, Joseph, has stepped in to continue the work Ireneusz began.
