...as an almost 5 year old I clearly remember the lift off of Apollo 11 -a parent on either side of me squeezing my hands while being lifted as they stood screaming "Go baby Go!!!"
...the best part was because it was the middle of summer and everyone had their windows open I could hear a crowd of screaming voices from all the houses around us.

I was 4 years old when Apollo 11 landed. About the only think I remember is that, the Saturday before the landing, I shared a car with several family members riding to a cousin's wedding, and the car radio talked non-stop about something big and important happening in space. As a 4 year-old, I was much more impressed with the coke machine in the reception hall, which mixed drinks on-the-spot - this makes me chuckle in retrospect.

I remember this. I was at my grandparents house in Portland Ore. I have the cassette that my father made from the TV during this event. As a child I didn't fully appreciate what had happened.

Its amazing how the world was watching in awed this moment and how people around the world had appreciation for the US. Today, that appreciation towards the US is as far as the moon.
