For the Green Summer University this September, the European Greens demonstrated the value of group mobility, taking a vintage double-decker bus from London to the Summer University in Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice.
The theme of the summer university was 'Europe: make it or break it', and the passengers, from Britain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands, entered into the spirit of making a Green Europe. Along the way, the passengers met Green politicians in London, Brussels, and Berlin.
While greeting the bus in Brussels, Ecolo MEP, Isabelle Durant, said, "We have to travel to Frankfurt (Oder), and it is very important that all the Greens together show the will to do something different in the future and the Summer University will be, I hope, the beginning of new involvement and new mobilisation for Greens"
Brussels State-Secretary for Mobility, Bruno De Lille, from the Flemish Greens, added, "We try in Brussels to reduce car traffic by 20% in 2018. We think it is really necessary to have a city that is green, and also social. Maybe the people of the Summer University can give some ideas of how we can convince the people in our cities that it is for their good, and it will be a nicer place to live in"
