From what I understand, AVCHD is MPEG-4 rather than MPEG-2 as is mentioned in the video. I'm hoping it's just a "typo" because MPEG-2 at 24Mbps is, well, HDV. Sony being Sony, it's not surprising that it will force users into its proprietary flash card. Which is OK if it can come anywhere to the price points and performance of the SDHC cards. Also, if the solid state HD can come reasonably priced, I say <$700 is reasonable, OK.

This will be a bit of curiosity until a price is announced.

Youre right AVCHD is MPEG-4 but the camcorder also records SD using MPEG-2 codec at 9Mbps; sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for your comments- we only had a few minutes to pull this together before the prototype was given back. We plan to re shoot it once the production models are released and more detailed information is available.

The unit we have seen is a prototype and we are still gathering information prior to the official launch but we understand it is Sonys own proprietary flash memory cartridge. The 2 other memory slots use Memory Stick Pro Duo™.

Hi Paul AVCHD isn't MPEG2 but the camera is capable to record in AVCHD up to 24Mbps, producing 1920x1080p images as well as 720/50p and MPEG-2 SD format.

i wouldn't go for this range any more Sonys new NEX-FS100E is the next DSLR competitor.Amazing for wedding/indie films/music videos and so on.

does it record to flash memory or minidv tapes? because on one site it says you can get flash memory for it but most cameras like this record to minidv tapes. if flash memory than how do you import it?

Can you please tell what you get when transfer long files to PC? I have Canon HF-S11 with 64 GB internal memory (it records in 24mbs like this one - check some videos on my acc) but when transfer to PC it cut video files to 2GB and give gaps and clicks when I put them in Sony vegas. Looking for camera in pro level...this one looks great....
