Many many thanks, and one question: if notes are sound frequencies, then we can potentially have infinite notes, as frequency is naturally continuous. So why only 12 selected frequencies or notes are used in music?!

Excellent question. Yes there are an infinite number of pitches. Very perceptive! The 12 note division of the octave evolved over centuries. It's all based on mathmatical divisions of the string, HARMONICS and what is known as the OVERTONE SERIES. I don't know every last thing about it but what I do know is fascinating.
