That is great! The song fits perfectly too I think! Thanks for sharing your videos. My friends had a swingset just like that and I remember how they used to bounce back and forth when you were swinging on it! Brings me right back (and I'm 35 now!)

I grew up on the sound of this song... It gives me flashbacks... Wonderful :)

I played this album to death as a kid. Oh how I miss those days!

In 2nd grade (which for me was 1977-78), our teacher had a whole set of "Free to Be You and Me" filmstrips that we watched regularly. I think it was the original television special broken up into several parts and distributed for school use. Anyway, this song brings back tons of memories from 2nd grade. Your home movies are lovely. You look like you had an amazing childhood.

I heard this song a little while ago on a Target back to school commercial. I had no idea it had so much history behind it. I think I'll try and find the DVD release of this.

Listening to this song now, in April of 2010, just after my 38th birthday it's the first time I've heard it since kindergarten and I remember how good it made me feel that I could be whoever I was, whoever I wanted. Then I grew up and sadly realized that there's to much bigotry and religion to ever let people be "free to be you and me".

I used to have the same swing set in my yard with the slide on one side! I like those statues of TweedleDee & Teewdledum. Do you remember where they were (are)? I think I recognize Disneyland's Skyway gondolas. Those still seem like better times (for some people, anyway).

@FreedomforHaiti
The TweedleDee and TweedleDum statues were from Lake George, NY - I think a place called StoryBook Land. I was only there that one time with my best friend's family...
And yes, they really do seem like better, more simple times....

You're very welcome. After searching for this song here on YouTube, I discovered the 1974 children's special "Free To Be...You And Me". I looks absolutely classic. Now I want to buy it to share with my own kids. :)

wait - you never saw the actual video they made?? oh, my god! you have to buy this for your children to watch! although the video i put together seems like i had the ultimate childhood upbringing, that really wasn't the case. I really, truly believe that this "hippy" album which I listened to incessantly as a child, really helped me to be the open-minded, caring, feeling person i am today. please show this to your kids... and, again, thanks.

What a beautiful video. You were certainly a beautiful child.
We used to sing this song in music class in elementary school. Brings back wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing this.
