A dark and moving tale, is the story of a small town priest who bears the burden of confessions he must hear. A shockingly current and moving story of final redemption.
Father Conklin (Larry Pennell) is a well loved priest. Tending his garden, the tolling of a small bell calls Father Conklin into the confessional. What he hears changes his life. The confessor (the voice of Jim Aiken) plays a game of wits with Father Conklin, toying with him until the truth of the confessions is known. As Father Conklin hears these sins, he travels into a deep, dark place. Even the concerns of Marilyn (Sharon Collar), the local diner waitress, or his best friend Tom (Chuck McGahan) do nothing to help Father Conklin through his terrible journey. On the one hand Father Conklin refuses to hear the sins, on the other he begs the confessor to release the burden he has been carrying. When finally it is revealed who the confessor is, it is too late for forgiveness.
To fjordland, thanks for the info on Mr.Pennell. I just made the connection about a month ago when I caught the end of the Beverly Hillbillies show. There he was as Dash Riprock. My 24yr. daughter also saw him in "The Deep End". She was immediately taken with his good looks. Then she realized how old the program was and said "he's probably 80 yrs.old"! I think she pegged his age about right. Poor girl.LOL.

He was more fun teaching Ellie May Clampett some "Moviestarring" on the casting couch as Dash Riprock on the Beverly Hillbillie.
Great guy in person too.

I saw Larry Pennell a long time ago when he played a homocidal college student. He drove this 23 T roadster that had a snarling wolf's head mounted to the radiator;GRRRRRH!It was called "The Deep End". For a 1956 TV drama it was creepy as see this nice young man's personality change with the onset of night.
