Tow rating has just as much to do with being able to stop what you are towing. I figured this boat would have electronic brakes. Did you pull the boat out in 4low?

you had it in 4 wheel drive

4 wheel drive lo for pulling out of the ramp, 4 wheel drive hi for street driving: pretty much was necessary with the x

The power of X. Love the Xterra, love the boat. To pull it with out messing up your suspension just put in an extra leaf or two into the rear setup. You could buy them on ebay for about $200. Each leaf is about an extra 1500 pounds to your towing capacity. It might stiffen up your ride a little, but you dount have to buy a whole new truck.

Actually we did get a new truck recently, an 09 tundra. It's a good bit easier and I know the Xterra is relieved!

I have an X and i love it. 2003. I know it has the guts to pull that. But im just letting you know that since the tow rating is 5,000lbs, the tounge weight is 10%, 500 lbs. And that boat has way more than a 500lbs tounge. So you shouldn't go more than a few miles with that cuz you'll mess up your suspension.
but love the X. lol

Yeah, I know. If I had something bigger to pull it with, I would. We might be getting a truck soon though.
