@antisocialist87 i totally agree with u.Not only in japan, also in italy(my country)very often i've seen american tourists acting like animals...(for example...taking a bath in historical fountains during summer season)...they don't know the word"respect"for other cultures.

Yeah. I understand to see a real performance Geisha (and not one of those people who are getting a makeover) is a very rare occurrence. But like I told the person up top, a lot of tourists for some reason think that Geisha are objects and exist as tourist park attractions rather than seeing them for what they are - women with a job.

ya. I lived there for a bit and very rarely saw them during the day...

aww i heard for a westerner [like myself] to see a geisha or Maiko is a very rare treat so the touriests are always chasing and stalking them

everytime i visit Gion, there're lots of foreigners waiting to see Geisha and Maiko

the maiko's name is ichiyuri
and suddenly I remember why people hate American tourists.

Isn't it disgusting?
Kyoto has laws now that if tourists (READ - Western Tourists) chase the Geisha or touch them, they can get some stiff penalties.
People need to remember that these are women that have a job to do, and touching them is invading their personal space and opening them up to some problems. Also, people are being billed for the time that that Geisha is being bombarded by assclowns.
