Early Florida Call for Gore

Al Gore would've given a victory speech that night if something called the fox news didn't have a panic/meltdown like Jeb! Al Gore was elected president.
-
It seems illogical that many (if any) votes were lost. The networks called it wrongly 12 minutes before the polls closed in the panhandle. Can't believe there were many people watching election coverage when they hadn't voted yet, but were planning to.

Not sure I agree with you about us needing to be Socialist. In my State, the Clintons are looked upon as gods. I still find it odd Hillary did not landslide to a victory. Since Huckabee was from the same hometown and state as Bill Clinton, I figured we"supposedly" had one successful Governor of Arkansas, why not get in another one.
-
@h8tebred At the time we thought that Obama was not a neo-con, we where convinced that he was a socialist, which is exactly wha the US needs. But how is Romney better? He is a carbon copy of Obamas policies.
-
Don't forget 2008 along with 2000 & 2004. 2008 election was the biggest joke I ever saw. Clinton, Romney, and Huckabee were better choices.
-
@h8tebred True, the end result of both the 2000 and 2004 elections did make the US look stupid.
-
I just think they should have waited for the end result, it could have made our country no look stupid with early reporting. No matter if the result is in a liberal or conservative area they should wait until the final tally is done.
-
@h8tebred The accuracy was in saying it was to close to call. Some people said Gore, Fox News said Bush, and a recount that was a plaiged with contravercy, all contributed to the Supreme Court making the dissition of who was the president, and it was not the president-elect.
-
Situations like this are why I wish they would not make early predictions. Wait for the accuracy.

@chippewaman1975 West Virginia .. the home state of Robert "Ku Klux Klansman/ Grand Wizard/ Democrat Hero/Sheets" Byrd. But the most beautiful part of the 2000 election was that dumbass Algore would have become President if he'd only won that home state of Tennessee. If I couldn't even win my own home state, I'd be so embarrassed I'd have my tail between my legs.
-
@WilliamDRowlett Gore also lost West Virginia (5 electoral votes), usually a reliably DEMOCRATIC state.
-
I wish I'd seen a blaring headline, "Gore LOSES HOME STATE!" What a doofus.
what happens if 2 canidets got 269 electoral votse

Each state would get one vote, and each state's vote would be determined by their Representatives in the House. If a candidate earned a majority (26) of the State Delegations in the newly elected House of Representatives, then that candidate would become President-Elect.

@mattiewallace If Obama were to tied with 269 in 2012, Obama would lose correct, because House of Representatives is republican.

@stage51manager Technically, it depends on how the election for the House goes in 2012, because the new House would vote for President if the Electoral College ties. However, each state would get one vote (50 total), and the new House delegation from each state would decide how their state would vote. So, the one House member from Alaska would vote GOP, and the majority in the New York delegation vote for President Obama, and it would be tied 1-1. To be continued...

@stage51manager I don't know for sure, but my guess is that the Democrats would have to win the House by at least 20, if not 40 seats for them to have a majority of "State Delegations." If the Democrats win the House back, AND have a 20-40 seat majority, I'd bet a lot of money that the President has already won a comfortable re-election. His best bet for re-election is to get 270 electoral votes.

@stage51manager I remember back in 2004, that Fox News and NBC (and MSNBC) called Ohio for Bush at about 1am EST while the other networks (ABC, CBS, CNN) held off. Meanwhile, those that called Ohio did not call Nevada for Bush. The three that did not call Ohio, eventually called Nevada for Bush. The networks that made the decision to call Ohio had Bush at 269 electoral votes, and their late-night coverage was a bit different because the House was clearly GOP and Bush would win a 269 tie.
