When we go on glide and are side by side, when we hit lift we each make opposite circles. Whom ever is higher after the first circle is in the better lift and the other glider changes dirction to take advantage of the better lift.
You missed the point. Think of it as a figure 8. We were not making the same circles. The point was, you have to keep a watch out to see what the other gliders are doing and adjust your pattern to take advantage of the best lift. If I were to turn right, we both would had been in weak lift and would probably not gained enough to complete the crossing.
