In light of recent findings in USA, surely a public apology from Wessely must be imminent.

I can't believe they thought this was a turning point to make progress they were going backwards and still are, when will they pay attention to the work being done in america?

@plzsupportme Thats the word I was looking for "trivialises" and I could'nt think of it ! It could have saved me a long speel !
-
@CoolCollectableToys You're right - CFS doesn't accurately name the condition, it trivialises it.
-
I have ME and have had this condition now for 20yrs. CFS is not an appropriate name for the condition. Anyone with ME will tell you that the word chronic fatigue does describe the severity of the illness. Before getting ME fatigue was the kind of feeling I get running a 12 mile run. The so called "Fatigue" is like wearing an iron suit with iron boots and helmet while walking through treacle, the pain is unbearable and your energy drains from you as quick as turning off a light switch.

Wessely is an ignorant twat , he is the same man that said there is no such illness as gulf war syndrome. I hope the bastard gets ME/CFS.

M.E (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) was rightly clearly defined by WHO in 1969 as an 'aquired, patho-physiological, NEUROLOGICAL disorder' that should NOT be confused with FATIGUE syndromes given it can become fatal if done so.
Given the horrendous DEATHS of the like of Sophia Mirza and Lynn Gilderdale clearly, the World Health Organziations warnings are TRUTH.
And yet; the 'medical establishment' still clings to FLAWED perspectives on M.E.
How many more people have to unecessarily DIE?

My neurological symptoms started years before I had my first dental filling, so I don't believe there's any connection in my case. I'm actually rather sceptical about this mercury toxicity anyway, because if it really was so harmful you would expect more people to be suffering from it.
-
@Isisbridge You should at least check out mercury toxicity, it leaches from dental amalgam. As a neurotoxin it causes damage to myelin which I believe is a symptom of MS (I'm a CFS sufferer who got results from treating for mercury. My doc sent me to Wessely's assistant at the Maudsley who offered me CBT) Many medics seem to assume they are immune from mental disorders, until they harm someone.

@djcondra what recent findings?
-
Wessely has said that the illness caused by the camelford water poisoning incident of 1988 was down to some sort of mass hysteria. Presumably he expects us to believe that the thousands of animals that became ill & died after drinking the water were suffering from the same hysteria after watching the news. How does this pillock warrant being portrayed as some sort of expert?

@jimijamesh I can't agree more with you, that fucking asshole. In the beginning he probably thought that CFS/ME was only between your ears and totally not physical. But look what he does now!? He tells in an interview that it is BOTH psychological AND physical!! He tries to deny his own faults! The fault that he thought it was all in the head! WAKE UP people, never let whatever psychiatrists tell you that you have a mental illness because it simply doesn't exist! Look up Thomas Szasz on youtube!
@GBCOne
You want to try having MS! The hurdles you have to go over to get that diagnosed are unbelievable. Even when you've got lesions showing up on MRI, you still don't get a diagnosis, unless you get results on other tests as well. It's always possible that SOME people who think they have ME may actually have undiagnosed MS.

@Isisbridge, I have no experience of Multiple Sclerosis so I'll take your word for it. I agree with you that there may well be some people who have been diagnosed with or think they have ME but actually have MS.

They should stop calling chronic fatigue ME unless there is actual evidence of brain inflammation. Some people with a diagnosis of ME might have an actual brain condition, whilst countless others are fatigued for some other reason, including some who have psychological problems, and some who are malingerers. It has become too much of a catch-all diagnosis.

@Isisbridge, Whilst I would agree wholeheartedly that there is a 'dustbin diagnosis' in operation here, I'm intrigued the wording "stop calling chronic fatigue ME" for the usual argument is 'stop calling ME chronic fatigue (syndrome)'. Personally I think both terms are undesirable and would probably be unnecessary if proper physiological investigation and diagnosis were executed instead of the rather glib, slap-dash approach we currently have.
