@dutchtrader I don't see anyone pretending to be enlightened - simply chanting names of god - which is not Indian or sectarian - it's given for everyone everywhere.
Too bad...coz if U were Indian, U'd actually have LOVED seeing people enjoy kirtan so much.
Kirtan isn't a activity of enlightened grurs...it is the path for every soul to tap their inner sourceof bliss. It is something that should be freely shared with the world, and each recepient must treat it like they own it.
"Kirtan is the source of all happiness"
"If U haven't been in a kirtan, you haven't lived"
" I don't like when people rip off my cultural identity."
Why? Really, WHY? Isn't that the very mindset that promotes division and ultimately war? Why not be proud of the inspiration your culture/music provides for others? I prefer to see us as all being World Citizens and the cultures of this world are for all to enjoy and benefit from. There are many great truths found in many cultural and religious traditions. Love is all there is my friend. Sounds cliche, but true, in my experience.
I'm not Indian or into Jai, but if I was I'd be a little upset at these white people pretending to be enlightened gurus. Just saying, I don't like when people rip off my cultural identity.

Dear dutchtrader,
Kirtan isn't about a certain country, race or religion.
It is simply a natural process...much like breathing.
We all breathe ...whether White, Black, Brown , yellow, human, ant or spider.
The essence of Kirtan is simple...connect with the super-soul and cultivate joy from within...a birthright of every living entity.
BTW I'm Indian, and Kirtan is the background score of my every waking moment.
"There's a Kirtan playing in my head....and I DON'T want it to stop" :-)
