In a speech at the Sydney Opera House to mark his award of Australia's human rights prize, the Sydney Peace Prize, John Pilger describes the "unique features" of a political silence in Australia: how it affects the national life of his homeland and the way Australians see the world and are manipulated by great power "which speaks through an invisible government of propaganda that subdues and limits our political imagination and ensures we are always at war - against our own first people and those seeking refuge, or in someone else's country".

  • He is a world treasure...just discovered him.

  • @eddio333 His new documentary, 'The War You Don't See', is journalism at its very best!

  • @KissMyRocks

thanks, I'll look for it. I've been watching clips of his doc's all day.. on and off. Became pretty emotional while watching 'War on Democracy'. There is so much we are not made aware of here in the US.. it's embarrassing, and has caused me pangs of guilt and shame at some of these realizations.

  • @eddio333 It can be very overwhelming and emotional, I have felt the same way on numerous occasions.

There is hope though, through education of others--like here, the work of people such J. Pilger, N. Chomsky, M. Parenti, N. Klein & organisations such as Wikileaks, people are beginning to understand that our elected officials are falling well short-of-the-mark and that we should all begin to expect a lot more from them and that our systems of governance requires a huge structural overhaul.

  • John Pilger has to be the greatest humanist - full of vision and insight ... to come out of that horribly racist land of "Down Under". Almost everywhere JP delivers a speech - he seems to touch and expose a raw nerve ... the usual response being "denial-denial-denial" ...

  • Terrific speech!

  • @skeilty101 - I didn't hear him "attack the soldiers".

Could you please show me the exact time on the vid where he did?

  • John Pilger should be our Prime Minister

  • John Pilger delivers the City of Sydney Peace Prize Lecture in the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House after winning the Sydney Peace Prize in November 2009

Everyone should hear this, this is a life changing lecture about facts and truth...

    Power to the people!

  • One thing he doesnt mention, people join the military to serve this country, and he has no fucking right to attack the soldiers themselves.

  • When was this talk given? Please include this information with the video description.

  • @mooners40 Smedley Butler ftw! Cheers!

  • A very interesting video.

    Thank you.

  • those who refuse military service are pioneers of a warless society - einstein how about some peace ? war is a racket - listen to smedley butler - he should know

  • @Yoetah "no one wants to be the first to die." What the caller says at the end of this vid says it all. They are prepared and we are not but it is coming nevertheless.

  • The chickens are coming home to roost.

Those who believe our military will protect us, you're mistaken

We've been warned a powerful faction will destroy the U.S.

They've kept Americans under the illusion of safety to prevent a mass awakening

Many have died attempting to warn us

The fear of death prevents high profile men from speaking out and stopping this machine

If we "see" reality, the fear of death would vanish. The enslavement of humanity would end

PETE PETERSEN, DO U FEAR DEATH?

  • "I confess wrote Lord Curzon Viceroy of India over a century ago that countries are pieces on a chessboard upon which is being played out a great game for the domination of the world"

"the way we're manipulated by great power which speaks through an invisible government of propaganda...that subdues & limits our political imagination and insures we are always at war"

"planes bombed a wedding party in Afghanistan. Sixty people were blown to bits...that's the 5th wedding party attacked in our name"

  • Government's final solution is one word, Democide.

Bernay's Uncle Freud said it best, people demand illusions over truth. An agreed upon shared set of lies and fantasies that pump up the individual's ego and importance in the name of nationalism or any other ism.

Look how many share my beLIEfs, they must be true. Please God let them be true. I want to be immortal and live forever in heaven laughing at all the sinners I sentenced to hell in my mind. Please God don't let my whole life be a lie.

  • SHARED!

    Excellent post

thank u so much to Mr Pilger and to the person who posted this
