Strange that....possibly because whoever wrote the book had never seen or even conceived of any modern technology. It never ceases to amaze me how people twist the facts to fit their reality. @thisnameisuniq I can't judge this child as I've never met him. Maher is saying that because this kid can become a "minister", it shows that all "religious" ministry is invalid. Clearly, this is a flawed argument. At *most* you can extend fault to the local group of people that ordained this child.

Classic logical fallacy of hasty generalization, Bill Maher. Are most ministers ordained at 9? No, so you're pointing to an exceptional case that you CANNOT apply in general. Does a single example of a child being able to do something "adult" invalidate it as something worthy of an "adult"? Does a Sho Yano entering med school @ 12 yrs old invalidate medicine? Does Marla Olmstead selling ~$1000 paintings @ 4 yrs old invalidate art?

People placed a 10 year old as a minister because they want to have a truely innocent person talk the truth and lead those who can not see it back to the path. The Bible does say that the children shall lead. Unfortunately that 10 year old better have a PHD in philosophy for Bill Maher to take that seriously.

In all honesty, I wasn't actually trying to correlate a "proper equivalent" but merely seeking to point out that Maher's question isn't a good one.

Well, not always... but *experience* is indeed irreplaceable -- which is why a 10 year old "ordained" Pendergrass prolly wasn't busy doing marriage counceling. ;-)

Well, a minister is an authority figure, so the proper equivalent to that would be a much teacher, or music professor, not a prodigy.

At any rate, yea, authority and knowledge aren't determined by one's age.
