Dave Mackay was a member of the Tottenham side (along with winger Cliff Jones) that was the first English team to lift both the League and FA Cup trophies in the same season. Here, he discusses his early years as a player at Heart of Midlothian, winning the double with Spurs and the opportunity offered to him by the brilliant and mercurial Brian Clough, who was then manager of Derby County. Being the joint recipient of the Footballer of the Year award in 1969 and managing a league-winning Derby side in 1975 were just two of the highlights in the long and successful career of this Edinburgh-born player and manager.
